About this Garden Plan

Successive Vegetable Garden Starting in the top row I chose to start with cabbage because it will start at the beginning of March and last until mid-July. Followed by cauliflower because cauliflower will start at the beginning of July allowing for the cabbage to finish as the cauliflower starts. Ending the top row is spinach because it does have a short growing season and will last from September, the end of cauliflower season, until mid-October. In the middle row, I started with broccoli because it starts just after the cabbage does, this starts growing in April and ends growing around the end of June. I followed this by sweet potatoes because it begins growing season in June, the month broccoli ends its initial growing season. Sweet potatoes will grow until September, so I went with broccoli again because it will pick-up around September and will last until the beginning of November. In the third, bottom row, I decided to start with spinach because it has a short initial growing season starting in May and ending mid-June. I followed it by squash because it will last from the beginning of June until the end of September. I ended this row with Kale because Kale will start around the beginning of September and will last until almost the end of November. Beneficial Habitat Gardening Because I had a lot of plants from the cabbage family the plants planted here were able to benefit a majority of plants planted in the successive garden. Plants such as cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, and kale are in the same family according to burpee.com. They all would benefit from onions and brussels sprout. These would help deter invasive insects. For the potatoes I chose to plant corn because it would help protect them. For the squash I planted pumpkin and for the kale I chose to plant lettuce. Fruit Garden Lemon- can be attacked by scale insects and mealybugs according to growveg.com One way to protect against this is to use soft soap sprays or use a chemical called Malathion to
